Introducing Map Intelligence for Cognos Customers

Exciting new capabilities enabling customers to bridge their powerful Cognos and GIS solutions, such as ESRI or MapInfo. Rich interactive mapping applications are easily imbedded in Cognos reports. Report developers can augment existing GIS maps with point, relationship, and area layers driven from Cognos data - easily in a point and click environment. The author can specify what Cognos report data is to be passed to the GIS map, and how the data is to be treated.

SpotOn has developed a new functionality for Report Studio to
easily "map-enable" reports. A new Toolbox Item specifies location of the map object. The configure map button launches the Map Intelligence client and passes report query and data elements to the configuration environment. Dynamic layers can then be created from the Cognos report's facts and dimensions - sending these layers to the GIS system (ESRI or MapInfo) to superimpose over the pre-existing map layers. Saving the Map Intelligence configuration binds the GIS map - with new layers - to the Cognos report specification. Map content and zooming levels are then driven by the report data, including user prompt controls and report to report drill-through.

Powerful new applications are now possible by combining the strengths of your Cognos BI and enterprise GIS solution. Users benefit from interactive mapping objects in their Cognos reports.
